Work History: June 2015 – Present – Freelance writer Skills gained: SEO techniques, use of social media platforms, attention to detail.
May - Aug 2016 – Minerals and Waste consultant for The Mineral Planning Group Skills gained: Writing Planning Applications, Coal Mining Risk assessments, Environmental Impact Assessments and Waste recovery plans. Part of a consultancy team that ensured planning permissions were obtained in an environmentally sustainable manner. I carried out field monitoring at quarry sites as well as performing desk based analyses.
July - October - Summer Intern for USDA Forest Service in Dillon, Montana Skills gained: fieldwork skills, collaborating with different governing bodies, office work. I monitored and assessed hydraulic catchments. As well as inputting collected data into excel and GIS analysing how cattle grazing affected riparian areas
June – September 2014 – Summer Intern for Mott MacDonald’s Environment division Skills gained: improvement in excel, word, outlook, arc GIS, Prezi, office experience, managing my own workload independently and precision in field work methods. I assisted the hydrologists and ecologists with various consultancy projects including going on site visits, analysing results, inputting raw data and making professional graphs.
June-July 2013 – Peruvian Amazonian fieldwork apprentice Skills gained:cultural awareness, sustainable living,data analysis I was one of five students selected in the UK to be awarded the Learning and Leading fieldwork scholarship funded by the Royal Geographical Society. I worked as a fieldwork apprentice for a PHD student from Leeds University in the Amazon rainforest.
August 2012 – Security Screener for the London Olympic and Paralympic games Skills gained: teamwork, communication (all ages and backgrounds) and initiative. This involved interacting with and monitoring the public. I was based on a Pedestrian Screening Area where I searched bags, performed body searches, scanned tickets and greeted guests.
2010– 2012 – Sunday classTeaching Assistant. Skills gained: creativity, communication, pastoral care, leadership and enthusiasm. Supported the teacher and fed-back to parents on how their children had participated.
August 2011 –Camp Leader for two weeks on a Jewish educational youth camp named Noam. I wrote and ran educational and entertainment programs, resolved any problems the children may have had, made sure meal time ran smoothly, and looked after a dorm.
Volunteering: September 2013 – current – Geography Ambassador for the Royal Geographical Scheme I am responsible for visiting schools and promoting Geography as a GCSE subject. I run programs for groups of 30 -90 students.
June 2011 – Work experience at ‘Noi Raggazi del Mondo’ in Italy Here I was tasked with helping Libyan refugees who had fled the troubles in their homeland. I helped them fill out forms to gain residence in Italy and listened sympathetically to their traumatic experiences. I also visited a farm that the charity owned, which was being re-branded in order to gain more profit - while also being sustainable.
