Ravenscroft and Edge prize: 5,000 word piece detailing my trip to the Peruvian Amazon, which was funded by the Royal Geographical Society (RGS). I was fortunate enough to be one of five students selected to do an apprenticeship with a researcher from Leeds University. I helped him collect carbon biomass data, record tree species and measure peat and soil depth. I then went on to analyse the data for him, attaining a first in my dissertation titled ‘floristic composition in the Peruvian Amazon.
